TRANSCEND AUSTRALIA
In 2024, Prosh Week will support Transcend Australia.
Transcend Australia’s vision is that trans, gender diverse, and non-binary (TGDNB) children are embraced and given every opportunity to thrive and flourish. Their purpose is to support, affirm and celebrate the lives of TGDNB children as well as their families and carers.
Transcend Australia advocates for parental support and acceptance as key protective factors that increase the opportunities for a young person to have timely access to the gender affirming care they need, and their services are free for families.
What does Transcend Australia do?
Transcend Australia is a community-led organisation that provides peer navigation and peer support services, community support networks, education, resources and youth leadership opportunities for trans, gender diverse, and non-binary young people, their parents, and carers.
Since 2012, Transcend has connected thousands of families to medical, legal and educational support services and parent/carer communities around Australia.
Below are just some of Transcend Australia’s projects and missions:
Play a strong role in advocacy to government, service providers, and other institutions that intersect with the lives of TGDNB children and young people.
Provide free one-on-one and group support to families of TGDNB children through peers with lived experience.
Promote and distribute Australian helplines and support groups that support TGDNB, brotherboys, sistergirls and questioning young people.
Strive to educate about the lived realities of families with TGDNB children by providing educational resources to help build knowledge, understanding, support and inclusivity. These include support plans, gender diversity guides, and diversity and inclusion training.
Promote and distribute information, gender and youth health services, and standards of care to Australian clinicians to ensure that trans young people achieve better health outcomes.
Collaborate with external organisations like Orygen, Royal Childrens’s Hospital Gender Service, Transgender Victoria and Monash Gender Clinic to increase services and improve care experiences for trans young people and their families across Victoria.
